Matthew Akpan, from Leeds, UK, is renowned in the world of Guinness World Records, holding three records, including two for completing marathons and half-marathons dressed as John Cena. Inspired by his late father, he began these feats in tribute after his father’s passing in 2021 from kidney failure. Matthew undertakes his annual Guinness World Record challenges each May, earning recognition from figures like John Cena and Olympic Gold Medal triathlete Jonny Brownlee, who has also praised him for his efforts. 

Matthew has filmed a TV quiz show set to air between March 10 and April 25, 2025. He has also filmed an extra role in a Hollywood film expected to be released around Christmas 2025. This event takes place just days before the National Television Awards (NTA), where Matthew will walk the red carpet with celebrities. 

He is also nominated for the Rob Burrow Outstanding Courage Award at the 2025 Yorkshire Choice Awards. Beyond records, Matthew has spoken at Europe’s largest Love of Wrestling convention, highlighting his achievements as the only non-wrestler on stage. He is also a dedicated philanthropist, raising over £1500 for charities such as Bethany’s Smile, Victim Support, and MND, notably through events like the Rob Burrow Marathon and the Great North Run. 

Locally, Matthew holds the record for most wins at the Woodhouse Moor Parkrun 5k, with 50 victories. Nominated for Outstanding Courage at the 2024 Yorkshire Choice Awards, Matthew continues to inspire through his dedication to sport, charity, and honoring his father’s memory. Additionally, he is multilingual, speaking both French and Spanish, which further complements his diverse achievements and outreach efforts.
