Mariah Idrissi

Mariah Idrissi is a Model and Filmmaker from the UK. She made history when recognised as the first hijab wearing model in 2015 when featuring in a global campaign for H&M.

Since childhood, Mariah has been writing both fiction and non-fiction stories and was supported by her parents in the pursuing creative arts. Mariah has a strong interest in storytelling to promote ‘edutainment’ authentically through various creative mediums. She uses fashion as a positive expression of the hijab and is both a face and voice for women who choose to dress modestly.

Mariah is an international public speaker including debating at Oxford Union, speaking at Cambridge University and the Houses of Parliament. In 2016, she spoke on the subject “Changing the Face of Fashion” at TEDxTeen. She uses her voice for change, sharing thought-provoking ideas and insights as she has a unique lens in fashion, film and TV.

Mariah was on the cover of Emirates Woman magazine and featured in Rihanna’s FENTY beauty campaign in 2017. In 2018, she became recognised as a MIPAD – Most Influential People of African Descent at the United Nations. She won the ‘Young Achiever’ Award at the Arabian Business Awards in 2019.

She is passionate about a number of humanitarian causes and is an ambassador for charity ‘Help Yateem’. Mariah produced and presented a short documentary for Comic Relief in 2020 and is currently working on a documentary series.
