KC and The Sunshine Band

Band

KC and The Sunshine Band are an American disco-funk band founded in 1973, by Harry Wayne Casey. Considered pioneers in the disco-funk genre, the band can boast six top-ten singles, five number-one singles and two singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. They are best known for their hit singles, That’s the Way (I Like It), (Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty, I’m Your Boogie Man, and Keep It Comin’ Love, among others.

Experiencing early success with Blow Your Whistle and Sound Your Funky Horn, the band performed well on the US R&B chart. They rose to mainstream recognition with, Rock Your Baby, which became a number-one hit in 51 countries. Their single Queen of Clubs was a major hit in the UK, peaking at number seven and providing an opportunity for the band to go on tour there, in 1975.

Their second album, KC and the Sunshine Band, released in 1975, became the band’s biggest hit with, Get Down Tonight, topping number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. With disco music experiencing a decline by the 1980s, KC and The Sunshine Band’s last chart-topping hit came in their fifth album, with the single, Please Don’t Go, which also became the first number-one hit of the 1980s. As new wave music became the latest trend of the 80s, the band decided to change their music style and encountered their first success in this new genre, duetting with Teri DeSario in, Yes I’m Ready. Their next major success came in 1982 with the hit track, Give It Up.

A resurgence in disco music in the 90s led to a revival of the band, and they continue to perform today, releasing albums in 2001 and 2007 titled, I’ll Be There For You and Yummy. In 1976 the band was awarded a Grammy Award and recently, they were honoured with a Golden Palm Star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars in 2013. KC and The Sunshine Band are now available to hire, to perform on your special occasion.
