Craig David is without a doubt one of the most successful singer-songwriters ever to have come out of the United Kingdom. Bursting onto the scene with his debut album Born To Do It, the year 2000 saw David achieve his first taste of commercial success. Fusing various musical influences, including R&B, garage and hip-hop, the album went on to sell over 7 million copies worldwide. Taking the British charts by storm, it soon became the fastest-selling debut album ever to have been released by a British male solo artist.
One of the album’s stand-out tracks, Fill Me In, also became one of the best-known UK garage classics. As a result, the album soon saw David achieve an enviable reputation as one of the leading UK garage artists. David’s follow-up release, Slicker Than Your Average, also achieved commercial success. One of the album’s best-known highlights, Rise & Fall, saw David collaborate with fellow British artist Sting. In the years that followed, David continued to release a string of notable releases. In 2016, David released his sixth studio album Following My Intuition, which earned him his first number one album since his debut in 2000.
The album featured a number of collaborations with other well-known acts, including appearances by Big Narstie, Sigala and Kaytranada. The latter in turn came to enlist David as a feature artist on his album 99.9%, where he featured on the track Got It Good. The release of his seventh studio album The Time Is Now saw David collaborate with well-known British rock band Bastille. Their collaboration on the song I Know You saw David achieve one of his highest charting singles to date.
Apart from his widespread commercial success, David has also been nominated for a number of awards over the course of his career. This includes multiple nominations in the BRIT Awards’ Best British Male category, as well as nominations in their British Album of the Year and British Newcomer categories. In addition, he has won several Ivor Novello Awards and has been nominated for a Grammy Award twice. Having racked up more than twenty top 40 singles in the UK charts, Craig David is undoubtedly one of the most exciting acts in music today.
