El Assal completed his Bachelor in Media & Cultural Studies from Kingston University between 2002 and 2005, followed by a Masters in Filmmaking in 2006-2007. His passion for cinema is evident in his career trajectory and the roles he’s undertaken—from a teaching assistant at Kingston University to CEO roles at Wady Media and Bigtime Entertainments, as well as his contributions to the Doha Tribeca Film Festival and MBC Network.

El Assal’s work is known for blending humor with serious themes, as demonstrated in his films such as “Sawah”, a story about a DJ who loses his identity and ends up in an unfamiliar country. This film, among others, showcases El Assal’s ability to draw from personal experiences to create engaging narratives that resonate with audiences across different cultures. His career also spans a wide range of expertise in the film industry, including film production, screenwriting, editing, and directing.

In 2015, El Assal founded Wady Films, with the aim of producing films that represent stories and filmmakers from countries that are often underrepresented in contemporary cinema. Through Wady Films, he has produced a variety of works that seek to resonate with international audiences. Some of his highlights are PAMFIR (Cannes 2022) and KANAVAL (2 prizes at TIFF 2023).

Furthermore, El Assal is an active member of several professional associations, such as the European Film Academy, Berlinale Talents, and Screen Leaders, underscoring his commitment to the film industry and its development. His career reflects a dedication to storytelling that bridges cultural divides, using cinema as a medium to explore, understand, and share the nuances of different societies.
