Maellyn Macintosh

Maellyn Macintosh is a documentary and creative director and filmmaker based in Dubai. Born in South Africa, she has lived in the UK, Australia, Spain and Mexico, before settling in Dubai.

Her documentaries are published internationally, on Amazon Prime and other channels. She has made films for brands and organizations such as the UN, Dubai Media, 60 Sec Docs, Nestlé, P&G, Azadea, Louvre Abu Dhabi and more.

She began her filmmaking career in London, making music videos, projection visuals and documentary content for superstar musicians including Moby, Ornette Colman, Yoko Ono, The Roots, Feeder and more. Her video art has been showcased internationally in festivals like Mutek, as well as at various London festivals. She has been commissioned to create narrative short videos for brands likeTimberland, as well as corporate and event films for prominent organisations. She has also made fashion films and commercial spots for a range of clients, including F&B, tech and more. 

Her documentary work has taken her to some of the most remote regions of the world to document indigenous cultures. Her feature documentary “Eternal Ink: Tattoos from the Spirit Worlds” is available on Amazon Prime and other channels. She has also made documentaries for organisations and brands such as 60 sec docs. Her short film “Doksuri the Eagle”, was shortlisted for the HIPA Award 2024.

With a background in writing and a diploma in journalism, she has written articles for magazines and published a humorous children’s book. She pursued her love of storytelling by studying screenwriting and subsequently won an award for best script in the 24 Hour Film Competition. With a quirky imagination and a desire to create exceptional work, she loves working closely with clients, guiding them from ideation, to script and through to the final cut. 

In addition to her filmmaking, Maellyn’s documentary photography has been featured in numerous publications, and she was shortlisted for the HIPA Award 2024 in the Portfolio category.
